There are times when astrology predicts events on the nose. The Mars-Uranus square of Friday February 27th was an explosive symbol that suggested yet another shattering of geopolitical normalcy.
Bringing that alignment home to the United States was Mars at exact conjunction with the Moon in the U.S. horoscope as Uranus made an exact square to it. As I've pointed out before, aspects of Uranus to the U.S. Moon are highly tense and destructive, especially when Mars gets involved. Throughout American history, the transit of Uranus at the late degrees of Taurus, where it is now, has consistently correlated with events leading directly to the U.S. entering a major war.
As the military presence in the Persian Gulf was building up those last days of February, I became increasingly worried an attack on Iran would happen on or around Friday's Mars-Uranus square, as indeed it did. Mars and Uranus were also at square alignment when the United States bombed Iran in June of 2025, so it seemed reasonable that a repeat of that alignment could indicate the start of another bombing campaign. February's attack on Iran was in perfect and tragic synchronicity with the cosmic alignments above.
Beyond the incidental timing of this headlong rush into war, there are strong significations between the horoscopes of America and Iran that suggest we are in for a long slog. The loss of life and infrastructure is too horrendous to fully comprehend, especially when compounded by the destruction from the wars in Gaza and Ukraine. But the inevitable stalemate with Iran may end up forcing a reset of priorities, and hopefully, eventually, bring America and the Middle East to its moral senses.
America and Iran have an intricate karmic intertwining. The Islamic regime America just attacked, including its recently assassinated supreme ruler, came into power as a direct result of America's meddling in Iranian politics in the 1950s. The U.S. and U.K., thirsty for Iran's oil and fearing communist influence, organized a violent coup d'etat that took down Iran's democratically elected government and re-installed the authoritarian monarch, or Shah. This betrayal of the Iranian people led to the Islamic Revolution that overthrew the Shah in 1979 and put the Ayatollah in his place. The Islamic Republic was born, replacing a brutal monarchy with a brutal theocracy that curtails freedom in the name of religious extremism.
America was instrumental in creating the enemy that it now wants to destroy. But from an astrological view, it is highly doubtful that the U.S. can take down the modern state of Iran. The horoscopes for both countries each feature a telling alignment: a square between Mars and Neptune.
Mars and Neptune together blend strength with idealism; masculinity with martyrdom; heroism with delusion; warrior power with spiritual aspiration. For the U.S., this alignment can be linked with cultural dominance through glamor, political dominance through deception, idealization of the military and slogans like "God bless our troops"; also the power of the film industry, the "God-given right" to bear arms, and the glorification of masculine American heroism (even when the hero is female, she tends to be a muscular, masculinized figure). The myth of the cowboy is shown here, an entirely fictitious story about the frontier man who only wants to protect his family, herd his cattle, and ride his horse into the sunset without any social responsibility.
For Iran–a country also known for its hard-hitting, sophisticated films–Mars is in the sign of Pisces squaring Neptune in Sagittarius. This gives us a clear picture of a "supreme" male ruler who is the ultimate articulator of spiritual edicts that come straight from God–a deceit that is used to justify oppression.
More importantly for today, the Mars-Neptune square of the U.S. chart forms a near-perfect Grand Cross with Iran's Mars-Neptune square. That is, Mars and Neptune in either country's chart is also at square alignment with Mars and Neptune in the other country's chart. This, to me, is an astounding synchronicity that strongly suggests there is no victory here for the United States, even if we could articulate one. The stalemate indicated by the Grand Cross, equally balanced by each country's chart, gives no leeway for either side to "win". This is not Venezuela, where we take what we want and ride roughshod over the country with little consequence. This is a quagmire that has no clear or easy end.
Astrologically, it's no surprise that the current president would be the one to strike Iran directly and start a war there. His horoscope's Sun and Moon are wedged right inside the Grand Cross between the U.S. and Iran. If a war was going to happen it was going to be started by him.
Even as a seasoned astrologer, I stand amazed at this. What are the chances that the guy who becomes President and starts the war with Iran is born during a lunar eclipse that exactly lines up with the charts of Iran and the U.S.? From an astrological perspective, it's not chance; though it's not exactly fate either. Choices were freely made, with strong potentials for how those choices would play out. The choice to negotiate peace could have taken this conflict into an entirely different direction.
As important as the Mars-Neptune alignments are, they are not of themselves indicative of a bitter, long term rivalry. That feature is assigned to the square alignment between the countries's respective Suns. The U.S. Sun in Cancer–inclusive melting pot or white supremacist vaterland–fiercely faces Iran's Sun in Aries. Such an alignment makes the very being of each country an automatic nemesis of the other. That is, until they can learn to work together for mutual benefit without dictating to the other how they should conduct their business.
Solutions exist in the alignments between Venus and Mercury. America's Venus is trine Iran's Venus, as is each country's Mercury. The harmonious alignments between these planets strongly suggests that diplomacy, not force, is the only path out of the quagmire. Once America reaches the point where it is ready to negotiate a truce, it's going to have a lot to atone for; and so will Iran. Diplomatic restitution is our only hope towards long-term resolution.
It is telling that the Moon in Iran's chart is conjunct Uranus in the U.S. chart, which will soon be conjuncted by transiting Uranus in 2027 and 2028. This alignment clarifies for us that the story of this war is not about one country dominating the other, but is about their people–Americans and Iranians united in their desires for freedom and reform, having no interest in warring with each other yet dragged into it by the elite powers that run their governments. It is with the people that the growing potential for restoring conscience and decency to world leadership resides.
Across the world we are witnessing a slow, inexorable process of great change, and generations after us will see this time with the clarity of hindsight that we lack today. They will note the dramatic transformation of civilization that occurred during this decade and perhaps understand that we could not have done it any other way. Like a homeopathic remedy, the authoritarian infection that has spread across global governance is drawing out the corruption deep in the recesses of the body of civilization. Once we confront and strip that corruption of its power it can be recycled into a usable form, first as restitution and holding perpetrators to account, then as rebuilding, renewal, and eventually a greater stability and peace than the world has seen before.
It's not an easy road ahead, but this is the way of the evolution of psyche, culture, and civilization. Regression always precedes a forward leap.

Thank you for this sobering and insightful astro-analysis, Brian.
At first I was going to say that the war/bombing campaign, incursion (“excursion” — according to Trump) was inevitable. But as you point out, “Choices were freely made, with strong potentials for how those choices would play out. The choice to negotiate peace could have taken this conflict into an entirely different direction.”
I listened to a podcast this morning with Lee Harris. He said, and I paraphrase, transformation for the individual comes after the revelation — whatever that revelation may be in your life. We’re not liberated/free from our past based solely upon a revelation. To be truly free we must transform ourselves and that can take time.
As a collective, we’re in the revelation stage — the dark underbelly of humanity has been exposed to the light and we’re all becoming conscious of it. Our eventual transformation will hopefully take the form of a renewed commitment to justice, equality and fair treatment that supports the well-being and ability to prosper for all, not just the few.
